Soul Cafe

We stopped by Soul Cafe in the Pinnacle Peak area of Scottsdale for happy hour and really enjoyed it. The pretzel nubs were quite good, especially dipped in the jalapeño cheddar dip and the house mustard dip. We also ordered the fried cod taco, which was also very good. The atmosphere had a fun retro vibe with 70s music playing and several TVs showing sports throughout the restaurant. The crowd seemed to lean a bit older, perhaps 50+, which gave it a relaxed neighborhood feel. Overall, a great happy hour spot and we will definitely be coming back.

Lunch today, 5-7-26. My wife enjoyed her beet/arugula salad. I had a pastrami & cheese sandwich with fries. We were on the outside deck and unfortunately they have a fly problem. One of the managers stopped by to ask how our meal was and we complained about the flies. She offered one of the little battery powered rotating devices but by then we were ready for the check. I really liked the pastrami sandwich and boxed the other half to take home. Well, unfortunately the story didn’t end there. I barely made it home and had to rush to the potty - yes, that was not pleasant nor expected. I’ve dumped that other sandwich half. Unfortunately we won’t be heading back to the Soul Cafe any time soon!

Exceptional service that truly stands out! I called the restaurant hoping to track down a receipt from a month-old visit for a business expense — not exactly a simple request. Despite clearly being in the middle of a busy service, the manager handled it with remarkable efficiency and warmth, locating the transaction and sending over the receipt within minutes. This kind of above-and-beyond helpfulness is rare, and it's exactly what turns a one-time customer into a loyal one.

My wife and I visited this hidden gem for breakfast. The place is well located next to a main avenue with direct access from it. It offers indoor and patio sitting. Inside they have a full bar with premium liquors. The bar also features screens for watching sports. We had the tamales with eggs and the two sauces it is served with were delicious! The hostess and the waitress were very attentive and the waitress even spoke spanish. We also ordered the zucchini and hazelnut bread with pink butter, simply delicious.
