Antelope Canyon

AZ-98, Page, AZ 86040
Located just outside Page, Arizona, Antelope Canyon is one of the world's most famous and photogenic slot canyons. Formed over millennia by flash flooding and water erosion, its smooth, wave-like Navajo sandstone walls shift brilliantly in warm red, orange, and purple hues depending on how the sun hits the rock.    Because the canyon sits on Navajo Nation land and is a protected sacred site, independent hiking is strictly prohibited. Every visitor must enter accompanied by an authorized Navajo guide.    Tour Options & Key Highlights • Upper Antelope Canyon (Tsé bighánílíní): Famous for its ground-level entrance and direct shaft-like opening that creates dramatic, localized light beams. It features a flat, easy walk inside, making it popular for all activity levels.    • Lower Antelope Canyon (Hazdistazí): A longer, V-shaped canyon section located mostly underground. Reaching the floor requires climbing down a series of metal stairs/ladders, making it slightly more adventurous.    • Alternative Canyon Sections: To beat peak crowds, options like Antelope Canyon X or Owl Canyon offer similar sandstone landscapes with a slightly quieter atmosphere.    • Tour Availability: A wide selection of local Navajo-owned tour operators run daily departures. Demand is exceptionally high (especially during peak midday hours from spring to early autumn for sunbeam views), so booking guided tour reservations weeks or months in advance is essential.
