Dr. Afuape is great! I've been working with her as a patient for the past year and she's always been very accommodating. Her approach is very direct, no nonsense, which I appreciate. She takes the time to listen and offers solutions and referrals as necessary. She is a very talented surgeon and provided ample details in my surgical report. I'm about 24 hours post-op from a hysterectomy and am doing surprisingly well for being under for five hours with a more complex case. I'm already mobile and on my feet and using the restroom as needed, which is a testament to her skills and expertise. I'm thankful for my med team who provided answers and details for a case as complex as mine. Thank you, Dr. Afuape!

I was under the care of several doctors at St. Joe’s while Dr. Afuape was training under them. However, after the entire medical team either quit or left, Dr. Afuape became the primary doctor, and all patients were transferred to her.
My initial meeting with her was eye-opening—it revealed the unfortunate state of what remained of the once-advanced pelvic pain clinic. Dr. Afuape was quick to discredit her former colleagues, including surgeons and instructors. She strongly criticized their methods, particularly Pelvic/Rectal Botox, stating that it was not FDA-approved and had no real evidence of effectiveness. She stopped just short of calling it snake oil, making it clear that she would not continue the treatments the previous doctors had been providing.
I found this astounding, as Botox has been proven to work for many pelvic pain conditions. She refused to acknowledge that certain areas of pelvic pain were out of her scope. In my extensive history as a patient chronic pain due to endometriosis, Pudendal Neuralgia, etc. there is absolutely not one doctor/surgeon that knows it all. If they tell you they do RUN! Pelvic Pain is so complex, that Dr. Afuape should be the first to admit how complex it is and that she does not know it all as she claims. I would not recommend her to anyone.

Doctor Afuape is the first doctor I’ve ever been to who treated my body with respect and gentleness. She gave me lots of space to voice my concerns and questions about my own care, prioritized my perspective and desires for my own body, clearly understands that consent matters even in patient care interactions, and is sensitive to the needs of survivors of sexual assault (like me). I’m still recovering from the surgery she gave me, but my care in her office has been outstanding and somewhat healing after the decades of medical trauma I’ve endured. If you believe you have endometriosis or another pelvic pain disorder, don’t wait—call her office and book and appointment and get yourself some real help!
